Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in Climate Modeling of Land-Atmosphere Interactions Job # 11679Â

The School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning (SGSUP) at Arizona State University (ASU) seeks applications for one non-tenure-track position at the rank of Postdoctoral Research Associate, supervised by Prof. Matei Georgescu. The position, available immediately, is a year-to-year appointment, renewable for up to two years, contingent on performance and availability of funds.Â
ResearchÂ
The successful candidate will focus on biogeophysical and biogeochemical impacts of energy cropping systems and shall be expected to assume a leadership role in the research, including publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation of results at national and international meetings. The successful candidate is expected to possess some or all of the following attributes:Â
Required Qualifications:Â
ï· A Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Geography, Remote sensing, or a related geophysical field by time of appointment.Â
ï· Experience using complex numerical codes (e.g., NCARâs Community Earth System Model, Weather Research and Forecasting Model/Noah-MP, Agro-IBIS);Â
ï· Strong computational programming (e.g., Fortran90, C/C++), post-processing (e.g., GrADS, Matlab), UNIX/Linux and HPC systems, and data management skills (e.g., capability to deal with large datasets of diverse formats);Â
ï· Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills (in English) necessary to work in a multidisciplinary team environment, author technical and scientific reports and publications, and deliver scientific presentations.Â
ï· Demonstrated research and publication record in the peer-reviewed literature.Â
Desired Qualifications:Â

ï· Remote sensing proficiency (e.g., use of appropriate software for crop type visualization and mapping through utility of satellite data);Â
SGSUP is highly interdisciplinary, with distinction in human-environment interactions, remote sensing, spatial data analysis, and urban climate. SGSUP boasts four National Academy of Sciences members among its faculty and has strong existing collaborations within ASU through focused research on engineering and energy systems, climate, mathematics, and sustainability. The ASU Tempe campus has approximately 60,000 students and is located in the rapidly growing metropolitan Phoenix area, which provides a wide variety of recreational and cultural opportunities and is especially desirable for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy biking, hiking, skiing, and other activities in the exquisite Arizona canyon lands and rugged terrain.Â
