The research unit “Theory and Modelling” of the research division “Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics” at GEOMAR Kiel is offering a
Scientist Position (ocean/climate Modeller) in the funded project „AGULHAS“.
starting on July 1st 2016 (for the period of 2 years, subject to the agreement to provide funds).
To research the large-scale influence of the inflow from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic through the Agulhas system, we are seeking a physical oceanographer/climate scientist with experience in numerical modelling. Starting from an existing global ocean general circulation model (NEMO) with high-resolution nest around South Africa, coupling with an atmosphere model (ECHAM) shall be developed. This activity is closely embedded within working groups of ocean modelling and climate modelling at GEOMAR and internationally. Experiments will be performed, analyses published to understand the decadal variability of the global overturning circulation at mesoscale ocean resolution.
The person best suited for this position will have a study in (physical) oceanography or meteorology. We expect technical and scientific expertise in numerical ocean/climate modelling and excellent English language skills. The scientist will work in the modelling groups research unit “Theory and Modelling” and supervised by Prof. Dr. Arne Biastoch.
