“Tipping ecological-economic systems towards sustainability”

The theme of next conference is “Tipping ecological-economic systems towards sustainability. Many natural resources around the world are being overexploited for short term economic benefits, leaving ecosystems on the brink of collapse. This is especially true for marine systems where overfishing is a continuous and globally increasing ecological and economic issue, also resulting in impacts on society and culture. Marine ecosystems are threatened to cross tipping points, leading to abrupt changes in recruitment, biomass, and consequently in catches. The aim of the conference is to discuss how to change ecological-economic system dynamics towards long-term sustainability.

Call for Papers 2021 Special Focus: Responding to Climate Change as an Emergency

Dear Colleague,
On behalf of the organizing committee, we are pleased to share with you the Call for Papers for the Thirteenth International Conference on Climate Change: Impacts & Responses (Online Only), UBC Robson Square, Vancouver, Canada, 8–9 April 2021.

The Climate Change: Impacts & Responses Research Network is brought together by a common concern for the science of, and social responses to, climate change. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries. As a Research Network, we are defined by our scope and concerns and motivated to build strategies for action framed by our shared themes and tensions. Online Only in 2021 // Blended 2022 Due to current travel restrictions—and uncertainty on the date these restrictions will end—we have decided to continue with only the online component of the 2021 conference. We are nonetheless excited to announce the online conference will be delivered on the CGScholar platform – developed by the Common Ground Media Lab, the research and technology arm of Common Ground Research Networks. We seek to build for our Research Network Members flexible, and at the same time resilient, spaces for communication, engagement, and participation.

Post-doc position Finance Biodiversity University of Exeter Business School

Postdoctoral Research Associate / Fellow in Finance Biodiversity

Job description

University of Exeter Business School

The post

The College wishes to recruit a either Postdoctoral Research Associate or Fellow to support the work of Professor Ben Groom, the Dragon Capital Chair in Biodiversity Economics. This post, funded by the Dragon Capital Chair, is available immediately. The successful applicant will contribute to the objectives of the Dragon Capital Chair the broad purpose of which is to generate an evidence base on what policies and interventions work to reverse biodiversity decline and to ensure that biodiversity is taken into consideration by governments, investors and consumers.

Please make it clear in your application which position you wish to apply for.

This post will focus on the interface between finance and biodiversity. Research will be undertaken on the extent to which instruments and mechanisms can be developed to allow the financial sector to more fully reflect the impact that corporate and other investment decisions have on biodiversity and ecosystem services. The post requires someone interested in investigating the efficacy of financial instruments and mechanisms: ESG ratings, disclosure mechanisms, impact investment and related policies and instruments, in reorientating capital away from activities that are harmful to biodiversity towards those which promote biodiversity. This may involve analysis of individual sectors, funds, and/or supply chains, or mechanisms like the Taskforce for Nature Related Financial Disclosures, among the many initiatives currently emerging on this topic. The post also entails contributing to the work of the newly formed UK Treasury Biodiversity Working Group and the BIOECON network (www.bioecon-network.com). The post could also lead to collaboration with the Global Research Alliance for Sustainable Finance and Investment (GRASFI) at the Smith School at Oxford University.
